Music to Scare the Heck Out of You
Some time ago, I started picking up St. Paul Sunday on NPR on my way into Church. They've played a couple pieces that have been truly disturbing. That got me to thinking about other pieces of music--orchestral and vocal--that could instill terror or at least some sort of emotional disturbance. I used to much moodier, so some of these are already in my collection. Here's a list for your consideration:
- The Commendatore Scene from Mozart's Don Giovanni
- "Tuba Mirum" and "Confutatis" movements from Mozart's Requiem (K.626)
- Trio in Red by Aaron Kernis
- Yiddishbbuk by Osvaldo Golijov
- Theme from Jaws and Imperial March by John Williams
- Under Ice by Kate Bush
- Three of a Perfect Pair and Epitaph by King Crimson
- Shower scene theme from Psycho
- Theme from Alien
What pieces of music have moved you? Scared the heck out of you? Sent you to different emotional place just by hearing them once?
Just curious.
